SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High mens and womens cross country teams finished in ninth place overall at the recent SeaKing District Championship meet at Lower Woodland Park.
The run was made more difficult by heavy rains, which resulted in a muddy course.
“So much rain, mud and tough attitudes out there,” Spartan Head Coach Ann Howard Lindquist said. “And so much strong, tough and positive racing in spite of, or because of, the conditions.”
Three speedy Spartans qualified for the state meet: Keith Carlson (11th), Haylee Derrickson (18th) and Devon Reynolds (21st). The top 30 individuals, and top six teams, qualified for the Washington State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8.
According to team spokeswoman Beth Bacon, Districts was overall, “a very strong finish for the men’s team. The men’s team outperformed some teams they had lost to in past races. The women had a rougher time of it, with some targeted teams finishing ahead.”
