Spartans dominate competition en route to 2A swim title

The Bainbridge boys swim team won the 1A/2A state tournament Feb. 21-22 at the King County Aquatic Center, earning the team championship and having several individual swimmers claim state titles.

The Spartan swim program has dominated since joining the Olympic League in 2024, as the girls team also claimed the state title last fall. The Spartan boys finished third in state last year when they were a 3A team.

“We faced some tough competition across the state, and some races down to a hundredth of a second,” Bainbridge coach Kristin Gellert said. “(We) rose to the challenge and came away as champions.”

Bainbridge finished with 395 points as a team, with two-time defending state champions Pullman right behind in second with 336. Olympic finished fourth with 148 points.

Aidan Cole won two individual titles for Bainbridge, while Sota Inoue, Ryan Rich, and Leland Hilgers each took home a title. The Spartans also won all three relay races. The Trojans also fared well, taking third in two relay races and having two individual swimmers place in the top three in two separate races.
