Spartans fall to HNA in gymnastics

Holy Names Academy edged Bainbridge in gymnastics during the Spartans’ last home meet before the holiday break.

The Cougars claimed first place in the three-team meet at Bainbridge High, with a score of 160.65. Bainbridge was second with 155.25, and West Seattle came in third with 125.05.

Holy Names took first place in the vault, second and third on the uneven parallel bars, second in beam, first on the floor exercise and first in all-around to secure the win.

Elena Fowler of HNA won the vault with a score of 9.4. She was also first on the floor with a 9.1 and was the all-around winner, with a total of 34.4.

Bainbridge was second in the vault, with Sarah Rice earning a score of 9.1. Fellow Spartans Miller Shor and Alathea Pippenger tied with the fifth-best score of 8.2.

Rice claimed first place in the bars for Bainbridge with a score of 7.35.

Shor tied for fourth place in the event with a 6.7. Emma Chee also competed for Bainbridge in the event and was sixth with a score of 6.55.

Shor then took first on the balance beam with a score of 8.7. Rice tied for third on beam with an 8.5; Chee placed 10th with a 7.1.

Rice nabbed second place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.0. Shor and Chee tied for third at 8.8.

In the all-around, Rice was second (33.95) and Shor was third (32.4).
