The Spartans junior varsity soccer team was the bright spot in this week’s matchup against perennial powerhouse Seattle Prep.
The JV volleyball team also won in its Metro League opener against Bishop Blanchet.
SOCCER: The Bainbridge Spartans junior varsity girls soccer team pounded the Panthers 3-1 Tuesday night at Bainbridge High Stadium.
Freshman forward Kamryn Coryell and sophomore defender Jessica Jelcick both scored for the Spartans, and the third goal against Seattle Prep came on an own goal.
In earlier action against Central Kitsap, injuries plagued the Spartans and the JV team fell, 6-1.
Bainbridge rebounded in its next game against Holy Names at Bobby Morris Playfields in Seattle Sept. 13, and won in a 4-3 thriller.
Jelcick and Coryell each booted in a goal for the Spartans. Sophomore forward Kellie Miller and sophomore midfielder Kate Matthews also scored for the Spartans to seal the win.
VOLLEYBALL: The Spartans JV girls volleyball team beat Bishop Blanchet in three Monday, rising to win after falling in the first match, 12-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Metro League play started for the JV team this week. Bainbridge saw serious action over the weekend, though, and won second place in the 16-team tournament at Mariner High School on Sept. 15.
The Spartans’ C team claimed second in pool play during their tournament Saturday at Kitsap County Pavilion.
Bainbridge lost to Curtis JV 3-0, beat Klahowya C in three, then fell to South Kitsap JV 11-25, 20-25.
In earlier action, the Spartans beat North Kitsap 26-24, 25-19, and prevailed against Kennedy Catholic 25-19, 25-14, 11-25.
Bainbridge squared off against the Bishop Blanchet C team Monday, but fell to the Braves 10-25, 17-25, 9-15.
FOOTBALL: Black Hills rolled to a 34-6 win against the Spartans JV football team during a home matchup Monday, Sept. 17 at Bainbridge High Stadium.
The sole score for the Spartans came from Jack O’Neil on a pass reception from Kasey Brink.
In earlier action, the Bainbridge team blanked Kingston 34-0.
Nick Minor had a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the Spartans.
Kyle Jackson added two touchdowns, and teammates Duncan McCombs and Jack O’Neil each added a touchdown to the Spartans’ total offense.
Paris Amore added a two-point conversion to Bainbridge’s offensive output in the JV victory.
