Spartans run away with win — Sports Roundup

In their first Metro League meet of the season, BHS harriers Rachel Belt and Nolan Amy ran away with top individual honors. At Lower Woodland Park in Seattle, Amy made good on his pre-season promise of leading races by building a commanding lead and finishing the three mile course with nary a competitor in sight.

At Lower Woodland Park in Seattle, Amy made good on his pre-season promise of leading races by building a commanding lead and finishing the three mile course with nary a competitor in sight.

Belt cinched her race with the same tactic, coming off of the starting line fast, and immediately separating herself from the pack. Her time of 19:41 was two minutes, two seconds faster than second-place Bainbridge runner Kayley Turkheimer.

The boys team placed second overall with 45 points, behind Nathan Hale’s 28. Ingraham finished with 77 points, and Eastside Catholic had 89.

The Spartan girls were the top team with 20 points, followed by Nathan Hale with 37.

Overall, top five Spartan boys runner’s scores: 1st, Nolan Amy, 16.22; 5th, Jason Rowley, 17:17; 7th, Max Suffis, 17:32; 14th, Trubee Davison, 19:11; 15th, William Zuchero, 19:30.

Freshman Noah Thompson, in his first cross country race, finished 17th with a time of 20:16. Freshman Bevan Taylor, also in his first race, tied for 18th by clocking a 20.16 as well.

Overall, top five Spartan girls runner’s scores: 1st, Rachel Belt, 19:41; 2nd, Kayley Turkheimer, 21:43; 4th, Kylie Dardis, 22:22; 5th, Mehgan Colkitt, 22:44.

In their first cross country races, Skadi von Reis Crooks, Hannah Davis and Alex Winnicki finished 8th, 9th and 13th, respectively.

The Spartan girls finished 1-2-4-5-8 to win with the lowest score.

****BHS swimmers drop Newport

The Bainbridge High School swim and dive team slipped by Newport Thursday afternoon in a non-league meet at Ray Williamson Pool.

Bainbridge scored 95 points to Newport’s 90, and are now 3-1 on the season.
