The Bainbridge High boys swimming and diving team took second place at last weekend’s SeaKing District 2 3A Championships, and a thick roster of Spartan swimmers and divers will compete this weekend in the 3A State Championships in Federal Way.
Bainbridge scored a team total of 238; Mercer Island claimed the SeaKing crown with 308 points.
Bellevue was third with 125.
Highlights included the title victory for the Spartan relay team of Garrett Waite, Kevin Houseman, Makai Ingalls and Jude Wenker in the 200-yard medley relay.
Wenker was also second in the 200-yard freestyle.
Waite won the 200-yard individual medley, and teammate Houseman was fifth.
Ingalls won the SeaKing District 2 title in the 50-yard freestyle.
In 1-meter diving, Bainbridge’s Kiernan Liberman finished first with a total of 439.05.
Brian Taylor was third for BHS (338.10), and Guy Weibel, eighth (280.75).
Ingalls will also compete at the state meet in the 100-yard butterfly, and fellow Spartan Wenker will swim in the 100-yard freestyle.
Waite will also swim for a state title for BHS in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Spartan relay team of Houseman, John Velisaris, Andrew Witty and Aidan Wagner will race for a state 3A title in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Three Spartans will seek the state title in the 100-yard breaststroke; Houseman, Carter Hall and Wagner. Houseman won the SeaKing title in the event last weekend.
