The Bainbridge girls soccer team handled a revamped Kingston squad 6-0 at home Sept. 21.

“It was one of the best Kingston teams we faced,” Bainbridge coach Katie Drovdahl said. “Their forwards were challenging, and Tayen [Munger] was tough in the backfield. Their team spirit was stronger so a huge testament to Steve” (coach Zehrung).

The Spartans first goal came four minutes into the game when Grace Rich scored from a cross down the right wing. “We haven’t been staying as wide as we need to and that was our goal,” Drovdahl said. “I was really pleased with that.”

Kingston earned its first opportunity a few minutes later with a breakaway. However, Kate Collins’ shot hit the post and bounced out.

Spartan Maya Fletcher went on a breakaway before stopping and assisting Gabby Weis for the second goal for BHS.

A few minutes later, Arden De Lanoy added the third goal with a penalty kick. The Spartans ended the half with a fourth goal from Laine Romney.

Kingston tried to respond but Analee McDonald’s shot went wide. “They are incredible,” Zehrung said. “They ran us crazy. We need to control the game more.”

Kingston began the second half with some pace, earning a corner kick a few minutes into it. “It was exciting,” Zehrung said. “They were starting to build into it but we were so focused on defense that we had nobody to support on offense.”

Bainbridge’s Avery Pujolar found the back of the net twice in the second half to end the scoring.

The Buccaneers had a few chances toward the end of the game but hit the side of the net.
