The Bainbridge Spartans boys tennis team remains near the top of the league standings after sweeping the Bremerton Knights 7-0 Oct. 6.
Although every Spartan won their match, the three singles players led the victory.
Brogan Rice, Rowan Kehoe and Erik Farley defeated their opponents with a combined game score of 36-4. In addition, all three swept their opponents in two sets.
Bainbridge’s ace, Rice, led the day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Kehoe defeated Bremerton’s Zyron Chan 6-2, 6-1, while Farley defeated Troyer K. 6-1, 6-0.
The Knights fought hard on the doubles courts. However, the Spartans still came out with four victories with a combined game score of 56-28.
Bainbridge’s Air Mielbrecht-Hansen and Aidan McLennan led the way with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jackson Warner and Nicholas Crowley-Koehler.
Bremerton’s second doubles team, David Lane and Bobby V., pushed the Spartans to the wire, having the match last nearly two hours. However, Liv Hensley and Brodie Lawrence withstood the Knights and captured a victory in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Knights Jasper N. and Nathan McClain had the second-longest match, forcing the Spartans’ third doubles team into a tiebreaker in the first set. Yet, Jasper Witten Carr and Sam King outlasted the Knights, 7-6, 6-3.
The Spartans sealed the sweep with emphasis as Reed Grandt and Carson Carpenito defeated Dylan G and Asher S, 6-0, 6-1 in fourth doubles.
