The Bainbridge High School varsity cross country team finished in third place in both the men and women’s division at the only home meet of the year Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Battle Point Park.

Seven teams, from both the Metro and Olympic leagues, participated in the combined event on the 5,000-meter course, including Lakeside, Garfield, Sequim, Kingston, North Kitsap and Eastside Catholic, with 219 runners entered in the boys’ race, 122 in the girls’.

Overall, the Lakeside boys were the fastest squad, finishing in first place with a team score of 51 and an average course time of 17:52.93.

Garfield took second (58 points; average time of 17:50.96), Bainbridge, third (87 points, 18:21.17); Sequim, fourth (109, 18:38.54); Kingston, fifth (109, 19:15.89); North Kitsap sixth (110, 18:33.16); and Eastside Catholic, seventh (182, 21:09.24).

For the women, Eastside Catholic was the team to beat, finishing first with a team score of 28 and an average time of 20:17.54.

Garfield again took second (42 points, 21:05.71).

Bainbridge once more was third (91 points, 22:36.99), followed by Lakeside (116, 23:35.59), North Kitsap (124, 23:38.66) and Sequim (144, 24:56.01).

The five fastest Bainbridge men were seniors Sebastian Belkin, Carlo Ruggiero, Nathan McVay, Sean Lindsey and Elliott Windrope.

Fastest among the Spartan women were junior Eva Entress, senior Natalie Taylor, senior Josephine Meier, senior Elizabeth Liz Messinger and junior Eleanor Collins.
