The Bainbridge Spartans baseball team swept the Sequim Wolves in their first two-game series of the season.
The Spartans began the series on the road on March 15th.
The Wolves came out hot against the Spartans, taking an early lead within the first few innings. However, the Bainbridge bats responded quickly and tied it at 5-5. The Spartans took a 6-5 lead before heading into the fifth inning.
The Spartans continued to find their way on the base paths as they scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take a 13-5 lead. Spartan McCrea Curfman ended the Spartans’ day early with an RBI line drive in the sixth inning.
The Spartans left Sequim with a 16-5 victory.
The Wolves came back to Bainbridge March 16. McCrea Curfman led the Spartans as the starting pitcher and dominated on the mound with his fastball and slider combination, having batters swinging late nearly every time.
In the first inning, he picked up a few strikeouts and a flyout to right field. Spartan Coco Black led the Spartans’ offense with a single. He later stole second base but was caught stealing third. Eddie Bignold also reached on a walk but was left stranded.
In the second inning, the Spartans broke the scoreless streak. Kyler Miller reached base on an infield single. A few pitches later, Duncan Bos hammered a ball off the top of the right field wall over the fence for a home run and a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Spartans Luke Lavigne and Bignold reached home plate on a double. In the following two innings, the Spartans scored six more runs to win 10-0 over the Wolves.
