Speedy start ends game fast for BHS

It was a wild one.

Bainbridge blanked Rainier Beach 16-0 in girls varsity softball in earlier fastpitch action.

Last week’s home matchup ended early, on the run rule that saw the Spartans in front by 15 after three innings.

It was a rout from the start. The first 12 Spartan batters in the first inning all scored. Five consecutive runs scored on wild pitches.

Bainbridge ended the first inning up 15-0, and tacked on another run in the second.

Miranda Grogger pitched for the Spartans and earned her first win of the season.

Malia Peato went 2-for-2 at the plate, with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Teammate Lillian McDonald was 1-for-1, with a double and two RBIs.

A game highlight for both teams: The reaction by Rainier Beach’s Tamia Griffin on a catch she made of a very high pop fly in centerfield as she collapsed on the field in joy and surprise.
