Scramble goes to chipoff
A full field of more than 140 players teed it up last week at the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Summer Scramble at Wing Point Golf and Country Club.
For the first time in years, a chip off was required to determine the winner of the Men’s Low Gross Division.
The following winners combined to take home $2,800 in prize money:
Men’s Division Low Gross – First place with a team score of 55: Ian Ritchie, Drew Azure, Brent Miller and Greg Epstein; Second place with an identical score of 55: Johnathon Murphy, Marcus Lacey, Hayden Ritter, and Joel Schoenfeld; and third place with a team score of 58: Lee Jorgenson, Kevin Daniel, Scott Boynton, and Mike Goldsberry.
Men’s Division Low Net, first place with a team score of 50.8: Brian Ditmore, Kevin Gent, Brian Rice and Theo Miller; second place with a team score of 53.2 was the threesome of Ed Johnson, Richard Moorhead and Jim Morss; and third place with a team score of 53.6: Mike Brooks, Jeremy Brooks, Scott Schudze and Gary Kelstrup.
Women’s Division Low Net – first place with a team score of 64.4: Cathy Shattuck, Elaine Kardong, Kimberly Brown and Marine Laatz-Dominy.
Other winners include the Putt for Cash finalist Gary Osmond, who missed a 50-foot putt that could have bagged him the $25,000 prize. He received a trophy from sponsors Liberty Bay Auto and Kitsap Credit Union.
Hole 7 – Straightest Drive: Austin Hurt.
Hole 8 – Longest Drive – Woman: Erin Hiney.
Hole 10 – Longest Drive – Men: Theo Miller.
Hole 11 – Closet to the Pin – Men: Don Kragerud.
Hole 15 – Closest to the Pin – Women: Elaine Kardong.
Each player received a cash prize of $100.
Select soccer scores again
The Bainbridge FC girls U17 team continued their impressive year, winning the Bigfoot tournament last weekend in Snohomish with a record of 5-0 and 21 goals for them with only two against.
The winning goals in the 2-0 final against Snohomish were scored by Haylee Baker and Bryn Kepler.
The team is coached by Phil Avison and Peter Kepler.
The girls’ U15 also had a very good tournament, winning their bracket with two wins and a tie.
They beat local rivals Westsound FC 2-0 in the semi final, but lost narrowly to Eastside FC 1-0 in the final. The team is coached by Tom Weed and Phil Avison.
The boys’ U13 Blue team also had an impressive run, winning four games in a row to make the final against FC Alliance of Bothell. After a 1-1 tie in the final, the Bainbridge boys lost in a penalty shootout.
The Bainbridge goal in the final was scored by Michael Crowley.
The team is coached by Phil Avison and Chip Ingrasci.
“Bainbridge FC uses this tournament as a tune up for the fall season, and we are very happy with these successes, as well as some other strong performances in the tournament, notably from the girls U12s and U13s and the boys U17s,” Bainbridge FC Director of Player Development Phil Avison said.
