BHS Wrestlers lose two dual matches
The BHS wrestling team lost to Lakeside 48-36 last Thursday, with 11 of the matches being decided by forfeit. Lakeside had six, Bainbridge four and there was one double forfeit.
The Spartans won two of the three remaining matches..
Forfeits plagued Bainbridge on Tuesday as they lost 54-27 to Kingston. Though they won five of seven contested matches, the Spartans gave up 42 points on forfeits. Alec Griewe (1:03 pounds, 1:15), Eli Narte (145, 2:47), Mike Furman (152, 4:28), and Evan Jahrman (160, 1:40) all won by falls, while Mason Remy (215) took a 7-2 decision.
BASKETBALL
Girls improve to 3-1
The BHS girls’ basketball team overcame a four-point deficit late in the third quarter to defeat Rainier Beach on the Vikings’ court, 45-40. The win gave the Spartans (3-1 overall, 2-0 Metro) an early two-game lead over the team most likely to challenge them for the Sound Division title.
Brittany Gray scored 21 points, while Anna Wood added 15.
Boys host O’Dea Friday
Defending 3A basketball champion Rainier Beach swamped the BHS boys’ basketball team, causing more than 30 Spartan turnovers en route to an 84-39 victory on the Vikings’ home court. Ben Eisenhardt led Bainbridge with 11 points. The loss dropped the Spartans’ season record to 2-2, 1-1 in Metro League play.
The team traveled to Ingraham (3-2 overall, 1-1 Metro), then hosts O’Dea (2-3, 1-1) Friday.
GYMNASTICS
Gymnasts one away from 100 wins
The BHS gymnastics team ran their regular season winning streak to 99, dating back to 2001. The Spartans finished with 166.05 points, far ahead of Shorewood (134.35), Shorecrest (129.9), and Nathan Hale (123.5).
The Spartans hoped to pass the century mark last night as they hosted Mercer Island, West Seattle and Chief Sealth. Bainbridge swept the all-around as Kathleen Callahan scored 34 points, with Katie Mathews close behind at 33.6 and Anne Schwartz tallying 32.4.
Callhan won the bars competition with 8.1, followed by Annie Zuckerman (7.6) and Rachel Kaminer (7.3). Mathews took both the beam (9.4) and floor exercise (9.35). Zuckerman was second in beam (8.8) with Callahan third (8.5). Schwartz was second in floor (9.2) with Callahan third (9.05). Schwartz topped the vaulters, scoring 8.4. Callahan tied for third with 8.35
