Tumblers score well for charity

The Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club performed well Feb. 11-13 at the Charity Choice Bumbershoot Invitational at the Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. 

All the teams that entered the event had a portion of their fees go to the charity of their choice, with BIGC choosing Helpline House.

For the boys’ team, Level 9 gymnast Bryan Peterson took second in the all-around competition. He placed first on the high bar and second on the pommel horse and the parallel bars.

Level 6 gymnast Cole Lewis finished second in the all-around competition for the nine-year-old and under division. He won the parallel bars event and placed second on the floor and the vault. 

Level 6 gymnast Henry Brown took fourth on the pommel horse, the still rings and the vault in the 10-year-old division.

Level 5 gymnast Ian Mathews took second on the rings and fourth on vault in the 10-year-old division while Level 5 gymnast Jacob Hendrickson finished third on the pommel horse and fourth on the parallel bars in the 12-year-old and up age division.

Level 4 gymnast Abe Muldrow was sixth in the all-around. He took fourth in the parallel bars event.

For the girls’ team, the Level 4 team finished fifth overall. 

In the 7-year-old and under division, Catherine Shelton-Jenck took fifth in the all-around while Sydney Johnson was 12th.

In the 9-year-old division, Keagan Daniels finished in fifth place in the all-around.

In the 10-year-old division, Alyssa Rasmussen  took second in the all-around while Emma Chee was fifth.

The Level 5 team finished fifth overall. 

Remi Rosencrans led the way with a gold medal in the all-around for the 9-year-old division. She also took first on the vault and first in the uneven parallel bars. 

In the 10-year-old division Morgan Dierickx took ninth in the all-around while Mia Bruzzo was 13th.

Level 6 gymnast Jianna Kaufman took eighth place in the all-around for the 10-year-old age division while Hannalore Friel took ninth in the 12-year-old age division.

Level 7 gymnast Vicky Camp took 10th in the all-around for the 12-year-old age division while Level 8 gymnast Chloe Seferos took seventh in the 12-year-old and under division. 

Sarah Rice took seventh in the all-around for the 13-14-year-old age division.

Divers score high in Canadian meet

The Bainbridge Island Diving Club had several members take home medals from the 2011 British Columbia Winter Provincial Diving Championships Feb. 18-20 at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.

For the boys, Christoph Webber won gold on the 1 meter and 3 meter springboard for the Tier II boys’ 10-11-year-old age group while Peter Miles won silver in the two events. 

Coleman Mitchel won gold in the 1 meter springboard and bronze in the three meter for the 14-15-year-old age division.

For the girls, Kittie Cooper won gold in the three meter springboard and bronze in the one meter for the 16-18-year-old age group. 

Rachelle Kresser took home silver medals in the 1 meter and 3 meter springboard events.

Shannon Engelbrecht placed fourth in the 1 meter and fifth in the three meter at the Junior Olympic 14-15-year-old age group.

BHS athletes earn honors in sport

Three Bainbridge athletes were recognized for their accomplishments:

Libero Emma Burgess was ranked in the top 79 freshman volleyball players in the nation by Prepvolleyball.com.

Pitcher Rion Ramirez is ranked at No. 54 in the Baseball Northwest Class of 2011 Super Sixty list.

Micki Johns was listed as an honorable mention in the USRowing 2010-11 Honor Roll, becoming the first rower to achieve this honor.
