The gymnastics team was the top scorer, with 100 points (the max possible) for academics and another 60 for placing in the state finals.

Softball added 100 while baseball, boys swim and dive, and girls golf all had 80. Mercer Island had 1,975 points to lead all classifications.

The Spartans opened with a 64-48 loss to Kentwood, then defeated Bethel 66-62 and Eisenhower 66-45 before falling to Mark Morris 58-49.

“We did not have two starters and our back-up point guard for the last game due to injuries,” said coach Steve Henderson. “Overall we did OK. It’s a long summer and we’re just looking for improvement.”

Will DiIorio led the Spartans with 50 points and was one of 22 players named to the all-tournament team. Ryan Burris had 48 and David Korsak 42.
