Track and Field

The Spartans hosted O’Dea and Holy Names in their first meet of the season Thursday.

The team also used Electronic Digital Timing for the first time, replacing hand-timing.

The Spartans (3-1) recorded their second 10-1 win over Eastside Catholic of the season Wednesday.

Bainbridge junior Sasha Carter made quick work in her Metro League debut as the Spartans defeated Eastside Catholic 10-1 March 18.

Carter, who did not compete for the Spartans due to a WIAA transfer rule last season, defeated Mira Murali 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

Last Friday, the Spartans defeated O’Dea and Holy Names 8-3.

Grace Porter won the only girls singles point at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Donna Hahn.

Carter fell to defending 3A state champion Natalie Allen 6-3, 6-4.

The boys singles players swept their matches, as senior Dylan Skeffington went the full three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

The Spartans won four of the five doubles points, with the mixed doubles team of Jenna Knell and Ian Saksa winning their second straight mixed doubles contest.

Bainbridge improved to 2-1 overall with an 8-3 victory over O’Dea and Holy Names last Friday.

Lacrosse

The Spartan boys defeated Stadium 12-2 Monday.

Scoring: Alex Crane 4 goals, 1 assists; Henry Derry-Schmitt 2 goals, 2 assists; Jordan Wagner 2 goals, 1 assist; Connor Cather 1 goal; Jacob Knotsman 1 goal; Kaegan Ingrasci 1 goal, 1 assist.

The girls team defeated Seattle Prep 21-1 Wednesday.

Water Polo

Lady Ray fell to Mercer Island 8-3 Monday. The team took on Roosevelt at King County Aquatic Center at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday and returns home to host Newport at 3:50 p.m. Friday.

Lady Ray lost to Newport 11-6 March 16.

Little League Softball

In a repeat of last year’s championship game, the Diamonds defeated the Storm 8-5 in five innings Tuesday. The Storm featured ace Natalie Allen, who struck out five in two innings work and singled to drive in two runs.

Storm relievers Madeline Walters and Mel Giasson, both rookies, made an impressive showing. Storm catcher Riley Gregoire also singled.

Diamonds starter Alyssa Estes went four innings, striking out 11 and allowing only two hits. Reliever Lily Kraus, making her Majors debut, locked down the win, walking none and allowing only one hit. Catcher Bailey Starbuck and Hannah Masters singled, and Caroline Devlin made three assists at second base.

Club Gymnastics

The Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club competed in the men’s state gymnastics meet at Stadium High School in Tacoma on March 20-21.

Nathaniel Opalski, a level seven gymnast, took second place in the all-around competition finishing first on rings and parallel bars, second on high bar and third on floor, pommel horse and vault.

On the level nine team, Bryan Peterson placed third in the all-around competition, second on floor and third on rings and high bar. Tim Forro placed second on vault and fourth on floor.

Cole Lewis placed third on rings competing at level five, Duncan Wallace placed third on vault, and Henry Brown placed fourth on pommel horse and parallel bars.

Eric Powell placed third all-around in the 12-and-up division, finishing second on high bar and third on rings and parallel bars.

Level-four gymnast Ian Matthews placed sixth on vault.

All the level five and up gymnasts qualified to go on to regionals held in Portland, April 10-11.

Club Swimming

Bainbridge Island Swim Club sent 25 swimmers to the Northwest Section Age Group Championships March 19-21 in Federal Way.

Tess Harper placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (two minutes 11 seconds). She also placed seventh in the 100 fly.

Spencer Alpaugh set BISC records in the 400 individual medley, the 1,650-yard free and the 200-yard fly. Alpaugh also took second in the 500 free.

Geneva Levy finished fifth in the 400-yard IM and the 500 free.

CJ Waite took set two club records fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 breaststroke.

Garrett Waite was sixth in the 50 yard backstroke and eighth in the 100 yard backstroke.

Samantha Sinopole finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke and Julia Lapin took seventh.

Anna Peirano placed sixth in the 200 fly.

Todd McCarthy finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke and set a club record.

Basketball

Bainbridge senior Will DiIorio scored 16 points in the WIBCA All-State boys basketball game at Mountlake Terrace High School Saturday. Team 3A defeated 4A 121-111.

DiIorio also led the 3A team in rebounding with 14.

Tanner Riley of Mount Si led the 3A team with 20 while Ryan Nicholas of Gonzaga Prep scored 21 for the 4A team.

DiIorio, a guard, was named Metro League Player of the Year.
