Golfers take home tournament medals

The Bainbridge boys’ golf team took home a third place medal thanks to its finish at the Bill Egbers Memorial May 6 at the Skagit Golf & Country Club.

Carl Jonson came away with the individual title as he shot a six-under through both rounds. He was in second after the morning round with a 68 behind O’Dea’s David Fanua, who shot a course record 65.

Jonson stayed the course by shooting another 68 in the afternoon round, bettering the field by four strokes.

Will Whealdon was the only other Spartan golfer who made the afternoon round as he shot a 78 in the morning round. He shot an 80.

Bobby Griffin and Davis Harrison shot a 79 while Josh Barlet shot an 80, but they just missed the cut.

For the girls’ golf team, they took fourth at the Suncadia Invitational April 26. They scored 395 points.

Julia Gross was the top individual finisher for the Spartans as she took fourth.

The girls’ golf team plays at the 3A Sea-King District tournament Monday at the Riverbend Golf Complex in Kent.

Rope Skippers send eight to Nationals

The Bainbridge Island Rope Skippers are sending eight to this year’s U.S. National Jump Rope Championships June 23-25 in Galveston, Tex.

They qualified at the USA Jump Rope Region 7 National qualifying tournament at Woodward Middle School April 23.

Sarah Sharman took first in the triple unders speed event in the 15-17-year-old age group and first in the single rope freestyle event. Amanda Stevenson took first in the triple unders speed event for the 18-year-old and over age group, the one-minute speed event and the single rope freestyle event.

Emily Applewhite took second while Hannah Sprague took fifth in the single rope freestyle event for the 15-17-year-old age category.

Anna Warga took first in the one-minute speed event, third in the triple unders speed event and fourth in the single rope freestyle for the 15-17-year-old age category.

Abigail Harrison took first in the three-minute speed event and second in the triple unders speed event.

The duo of Molly Harrison and Applewhite took first in the single rope pairs freestyle in the 15-17-year-old age category while Abigail Harrison and Sharman took second.

The trio of Abigail Harrison, Warga and Sprague won the double dutch single freestyle event for the 15-17-year-old age category while Sharman, Applewhite and Molly Harrison won for the 18-year-old and over age category.

The team of Stevenson, Warga, Abigial Harrison and Sharman took first in the single rope speed relay in the 18-year-old and over category while the team of Applewhite, Warga, Sharman and Harrison took first in the double dutch speed relay for the 15-17-year-old age category.

Molly and Abigail’s father, Scott Harrison, also took first in the one minute speed event for the 35-49-year-old age category and the three minute speed event for the 30-49-year-old age category.

Hardballers miss out on league playoffs

The Bainbridge baseball team is out of the playoffs after a 2-1 loss to Nathan Hale May 6 to finish with a 7-11 overall record.

Head coach David Smart said there have been learning experiences for himself and the players, but said he felt that the team was starting to buy into the new culture he was implementing.

“It’s a work in progress, but we have a good group of kids that are progressing,” he said.

The Spartans lose 10 seniors for next season in Dustin Lewis, Connor Loudon, Rion Ramirez, JJ Wilford, Nick Denney, Daniel Wyman, Henry Indvik, Evan Sanford, Kelton Jenkins and Wiley Jones.

Boys lacrosse gets back to winning ways

The Bainbridge boys’ lacrosse team rebounded from its blowout loss to Mercer Island by crushing Tacoma on Monday and Seattle Prep on Wednesday by identical 18-2 scores.

Against Tacoma, Alex Crane and Jacob Goodman led the way with four goals while Jacob Knostman scored three goals. Cameron Parker and Alex Rabin scored two goals.

Crane also scooped nine ground balls.

The Spartans wrap up the season at 5 p.m. Saturday against Puyallup at Sparks Puyallup Stadium.

Poloists end season with Senior Salute

Lady Ray will honor five seniors – Lauren Abrams, Rachel Agamalian, Taylor Shea, Anna McClain and Eliana Victurine – at the last game of the season Friday at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center.

The five players will be honored at halftime of their game against Kentridge. Game time is at 3:45 p.m.

The Bainbridge Island Water Polo Club is also holding a informational meeting for a summer water polo program at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the BIAC May 23. The program is co-ed and is open to grades 7-12.

Three training sessions will also be held with coaches and current players from Lady Ray at the BIAC from 7:30-9:30 p.m. May 23-25.

Club divers earn medals at home meet at BIAC

Several divers from the Bainbridge Island Diving Club came away with medals from a home meet with Pacific Northwest Diving of Federal Way April 23.

Peter Miles took home two gold medals as did Christoph Webber and Shannon Engelbrecht. Kittie Cooper and Rachelle Kresser took the top two spots on the one and three meter springboards while Cammy Rouser and Coleman Mitchel won two medals.

The club heads to Victoria, B.C. for the B.C. Spring Championships.
