Football
The Bainbridge football team put forth a good effort, but lost to Seattle Prep 21-14 in overtime Friday at West Seattle Stadium.
Six turnovers ultimately led to the team’s downfall. One of those fumbles was returned for a touchdown in the first quarter. Prep scored on a pass play in the second to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
The Spartans didn’t score until Corey Touchette ran one in from three yards out with 8:30 left in the game. The Panthers had a chance to run the clock out to end the game, but they fumbled at midfield with 1:20 left. The offense drove down the field and as time expired, Chris Bell completed a pass to Alex Crane in the corner of the endzone to eventually tie the game.
But Bainbridge was picked off on their first drive of overtime. Nick Holt ran it in on Prep’s first attempt on offense to seal the win for the Panthers.
The Spartans travel to North Thurston Friday for a nonleague matchup, then return to host O’Dea Oct. 22 in its last home game of the season. Game time is at 7 p.m.
Volleyball
The Bainbridge volleyball team is in a bit of a slump at the moment. They were swept by Seattle Prep Tuesday by the scores of 17-25, 18-25 and 12-25.
The Spartans were swept by Holy Names Thursday by the scores of 18-25, 21-25 and 17-25.
Kat Frickleton had eight kills while Erin Kinney had seven kills and eight assists.
Girls Soccer
The Bainbridge girls’ soccer team lost its third straight Metro League game 3-0 to Lakeside Thursday, but rebounded with a 4-3 non-league win over North Kitsap Saturday.
Morgan Moniz opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an assist from Emma Vukic. The Vikings equalized two minutes later, but Maddy Ketcheside scored in the 29th minute on an assist from Moniz.
Vukic and Moniz broke a 2-2 deadlock in the second half with unassisted goals in the 53rd and 55th minutes to seal the win for Bainbridge.
Boys Water Polo
Team Ray put forth a fine effort, but lost to Mercer Island 12-9 Wednesday at Mercer Island.
Grant Dunaway led the way with six goals, while Jared Bell had two goals and two assists. Casey Taylor had a goal while Alex Gorman, Braden Shippen and Dunaway all had assists.
Bainbridge rebounded to defeat Shorewood 17-3 Monday. Dunaway led the way with nine goals while Jared Bell had three goals and two assists and Colin White had two goals and two assists.
Boys Golf
The Bainbridge boys’ golf team finished with a 9-0 record for the season by defeating Eastside Catholic 149-116 Tuesday and Bishop Blanchet 154-131 Wednesday.
Against Eastside, Carl Jonson and Davis Harrison tied for the medalist spot while Jonson and Will Whealdon tied for it against Blanchet.
