FEDERAL WAY – The Bainbridge Island Swim Club placed fifth as a team at the 2015 Northwest Region Short Course Age Group Championships last weekend at the King County Aquatic Center.
The Bainbridge club had 35 swimmers representing the championships on March 19-22, and the swim meet included approximately 1,300 swimmers from seven states — Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and Hawaii — who met qualifying times by event.
The Bainbridge Island Swim Club placed fifth overall as a team within a field of 139 teams.
Several individual and relay Bainbridge club records were broken by swimmers’ outstanding performances.
The group of Ian Lipton, Aron Markow, James Sanchez and Andrew Witty won all four relays in the Boys 11-12 age group (200-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley and 400-yard medley).
Other relays placing in the top three included a second-place win for Samantha Caro, Carina Laukaitis, Candice Rose and Lauren Witty in the Girls 15-18 400-yard freestyle relay and a third place for Kevin Houseman, Makai Ingalls, Garret Waite and Jude Wenker in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.
