Teams battle weather

The Bainbridge High School winter teams are facing off against top ranked teams night in and night out – that is, when they’re not facing a more unfriendly adversary in Mother Nature. The Spartan boys and girls basketball teams along with the gymnastics and boys swimming teams had their games, meets and matches cancelled Friday thanks to another storm front that moved in over the week and brought below freezing temperatures and snow.

The Spartan boys and girls basketball teams along with the gymnastics and boys swimming teams had their games, meets and matches cancelled Friday thanks to another storm front that moved in over the week and brought below freezing temperatures and snow.

The boys were scheduled to travel to O’Dea, while the girls were on the road to face Eastside Catholic Wednesday and undefeated Holy Names yesterday.

The boys game has been rescheduled for Feb. 3 at O’Dea High School. The C-team will play at 11 a.m., followed by the junior varsity at 1 p.m. and the varsity at 3 p.m.

Other games that have been rescheduled include their cancelled game against Bishop Blanchet Dec. 15.

They’ll make that up Jan. 27 at Blanchet High School. The JV play at 4:45 p.m. with the varsity to play at 8 p.m.

The girls will also make up their game against the Braves that same day.

The junior varsity play at 3:15 p.m. with the varsity tipoff starting at 6:15 p.m.

The girls will make up their game against Holy Names Jan. 22.

The JV play at 5:45 p.m. while varsity is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

They’ll also make up their game against the Crusaders Feb. 3 at Eastside Catholic High School.

The JV play at 5:45 p.m. with the varsity to tipoff at 7 p.m.

The boys are still scheduled to take on South Kitsap at the 2007 King Classic tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Key Arena in Seattle.

Tickets are $10.

Both the boys and the girls teams are still on to play at the King Holiday Hoopfest Monday at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion on the University of Washington campus.

The girls will take on Roosevelt, who are ranked fourth in 4A and undefeated, at 9:30 a.m.

The boys take on Franklin, last year’s state champs in 4A and ranked number one, at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are also $10.

Gymnastics had their meet against Port Angeles, Mercer Island and West Seattle cancelled yesterday. There is no make-up date scheduled as of yet.

They travel to Shorewood today.

The boys swim team had their match cancelled against West Seattle yesterday. There is also no makeup date as of yet.

They take part in the Kentridge Invite today at the King County Aquatic Center.

In contests that did occur before the cold snap, the boys basketball team defeated Eastside Catholic 66-38 on Tuesday.

Steven Gray had 24 points and 12 rebounds while Austin Wood had 19 points.

The Spartans held the Crusaders to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

Nick Fling had seven rebounds and 11 assists while Ben Eisenhardt had seven points and seven rebounds.

The gymnastics team also won their meet against West Seattle 166.55-140.95 Tuesday for their 85th dual meet win in a row.

Marie Welsh was first in the all-around with a 36.1, while Kathleen Callahan placed fourth and Sophie Wenzlau was fifth.
