Vikings get off to good start, beat Bainbridge

The North Kitsap Vikings track team prevailed 171-124 in their first meet of the season on the road against the Bainbridge Spartans March 24.

NK beat Bainbridge in the boys’ events 99-46. Bainbridge got the upper hand in the girls’ events, winning 78-72.

Viking junior Solomon Furne placed first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.37 seconds. The time was nearly two seconds faster than second place. He also won the triple jump.

A standout for the Spartans was freshman Maya Jimenez, who won the girls 100 meters, triple jump and long jump. Junior Sabine Hartenstine also won three events: the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and the high jump.

“Great effort by all who competed,” Bainbridge coach Andrew Grimm said.

North Kitsap

– Junior Cohen Meis set a personal record in the 100 meters, placing first in 11.25 seconds.

– Freshman Luke Atchley placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 16.67 seconds.

– Senior Julie Castillejo took first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.91.

– Junior Georgia Nelson beat out Spartan Sophie Terp by a full two seconds in the 800 meters with a time of 2:49.09.

– Senior Phoebe Aala earned first place in shot put at 30 feet, 1.5 inches.

– Three NK boys took the top three spots in the long jump (Lincoln Gould, Arlo Wartman, Tanner Kaufman)

– Three NK girls took the top three spots in the pole vault (Bella Johnston, Arabelle Miller, Haylen Ward)

Bainbridge

– Senior Cara Brundige and sophomore Maya Zick finished first and second in the girls 200 meters.

– The Spartans dominated the 3200-meter relay, with senior Marcus Stroman leading the way for the boys and Mairin O’Brien for the girls.

– Junior Kaitlyn Davis led the winning 1600-meter relayh team, and senior Kellen Diercks the same for the boys.

– Senior Bobby Dunn Smith won the high jump.

– Senior Spark Shou won the pole vault.
