The WIAA Executive Board voted this month to delay the start of the fall sports season to Sept. 5 for football and Sept. 7 for all other sports.
According to a statement released by the WIAA, the action was taken to help schools with the pressure of reopening schools for in-person or online learning. The delays will allow games and matches to begin as early as Sept. 18.
All eight Kitsap high school teams were scheduled to begin football games on Friday night, Sept. 4.
The WIAA board intends to release another statement regarding fall sports following its next meeting on July 22, and will work to reconfigure fall schedules with to incorporate the adjusted start dates.
